The Right Remedy for Murder: Death

The Right Remedy for Murder: Death

“Murderer Suspect Held On One Million Dollar Bond” read the front page article of the Zanesville newspaper.  Does this concept bother anybody else besides me?  Why can a rich murderer go free while poor murderers are locked away?  Should justice respect the wealth of the O.J. Simpson’s in this country?

God demands that murderers be executed.  “Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed, for in the image of God made He man.” (Gen.9:6)  “He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall surely be put to death.” (Exod.21:12).  Jesus endorsed it in Matthew 15 and Paul in Romans 13.

According to Numbers 35:30-33, when the people fail to execute murderers they pollute their land with the curse of the Lord.  When the Governor of Illinois granted clemency to 156 death row inmates who were sent there by a jury of their peers, he perverted justice and brought both a heavenly and a hellish curse upon his jurisdiction.

Opponents to the death penalty argue that it doesn’t deter crime.  They should compare Saudi Arabia’s murder rate to ours.  When capital criminals are executed, the God of the Bible says, “And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and not do this wickedness any more.”  Even if it were statistically true that the death penalty doesn’t deter crime in America that could be because we are not executing murderers quickly enough!  “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.” (Eccl.8:11)  Tens of millions of dollars are coerced from law-abiding taxpayers annually to postpone justice and to feed, clothe, educate, medicate, legally defend, keep cool in summer, warm in winter, and to entertain capital criminals for life.

Opponents to the death penalty argue that the penalty is unfairly applied to minorities.  The charge itself is an insult to the minority-laden jury.  If the liberals don’t like trial by jury, they can try to amend the constitution.  Have they ever considered that more minorities are on death row because they commit an unfair percentage of capital crimes?  Even it were true that whites were less likely to face death for a murder than a black person who committed the same crime, could not this be interpreted to mean that more whites need to be executed (rather than less blacks)?  It may be that the death penalty is unfairly applied to minorities, but it’s because more murderers of African-Americans, who are more often African-American should be put to death, not less.  It is a shame that a black is more likely to suffer the death penalty if he kills a white than if he kills another black.  True justice is color-blind, immune to the bribes of the rich, void of the greed of attorneys, deaf to the whining of liberals, and compatible with the principles of God’s Word.

"Will ye pollute Me among My people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save souls alive that should not live...?" Ezekiel 13:19
